Self-Esteem ain't Self Taught:
Exploring Self-Esteem, Sex(uality), & Pleasure as Praxis in the Clinical Setting
We’ve heard it before…
More talk about self-esteem lacking as a personal failure. A thing that couldn’t possibly be based in anyone but yourself.
There is a lot of information that speaks about self-esteem as a binary— you have it or you don’t.
If you have it, you are good and worthy; if you don’t then you are a horrible failure.
Nobody handed you a framework for working with clients whose self-esteem was shaped by systems designed to keep them small. Nobody taught you how supremacy culture shows up in the therapy room — or how it shapes a client's relationship to their own body, their pleasure, and their sense of what they deserve.
And yet here your clients are. Bringing all of that in. Every session.
Self-Esteem Ain't Self Taught is a 3.5-hour course that takes the full clinical complexity of self-esteem seriously.
We will be talking about the framework for self-esteem, speak to how it impacts sex(uality) and how pleasure is the key we’ve been missing to help our self-esteem.
Rooted in the framework from Drink Water & Mind Your Business: A Black Woman's Guide to Unlearning the BS and Healing Your Self-Esteem — and taught by the woman who wrote it.

What you will be able to do by the end of this course:
Define self-concept, pleasure, and self-esteem beyond the binary — moving past surface-level definitions into the clinical nuance that actually changes how you work
Name 2 ways supremacy culture's ongoing impact shapes self-concept and self-esteem — because your clients didn't form these beliefs in a vacuum, and your interventions need to account for that
Identify and practice 2 strategies for aiding clients with self-esteem work — concrete, applicable, and grounded in cultural humility and capacity exploration
